A man in Stockholm, Sweden was killed during a penis enlargement surgery.

The Journal of Forensic Sciences highlighted the surgery of a healthy 30-year-old man who wanted a penis elongation and enlargement. As is common in many plastic surgery procedures, the fat was going to be transplanted from another area of his body.

The surgeons were just about to complete the fat injection when the man's heart began to race, and his blood pressure dropped. A half hour later, he had a heart attack. Although the plastic surgeons performed life-saving measures, the man died 2 hours later.

"This is the first described case where a seemingly simple and safe procedure of penis enlargement by autologous fat transfer caused sudden death in a healthy young man," the Journal reported.

Although the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reports that 8,400 "penile enlargement" surgeries are performed yearly, BuzzFeed spoke with urologist Tobias Kohler of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, who had harsh words about the procedure, in general.

“It’s a completely useless procedure that never works and disfigures men, and could kill you,” he said. “This is the worst case, but there are lots of other horrible consequences, from disfigurement to permanent erectile disfunction to even worse.”“If you end up with something that nobody recognizes as a penis,” he added, “that is what we call sub-optimal.”

BuzzFeed reports that the main issue with the Swedish man appeared that he wanted the elongation and the enlargement to happen simultaneously. In this instance, some of the fat meant for girth leaked into his cut veins from the elongation procedure. That then went into his lungs and killed him.
