As the literal definition of a cool teen, it’s no surprise that Lorde managed to keep her beauty look together even in the New Orleans heat at Jazz Fest this weekend.
Lorde performed an hour-long set alongside Tom Petty, Maroon 5, and The Roots as one of the festival headliners. Her ensemble helped cement her role as the leader of the youthful, trendy Jazz Fest contingent. She wore her hair in a model-endorsed half-up style, finished with double Dutch braids all the better for keeping her hair out of her eyes onstage. The rest of her lob was crimped into NOLA-friendly summer waves. (And, no shade, our favorite part may be the NOLA frizziness that crept in throughout the course of performance. Celebs get flyaways, just like us!)
She completed the look with a stand-out electric blue eyeshadow and her trademark strong brow. (We like MAC Switch to Blue if you’d like to try this for your next musical festival.) In keeping with the summer theme, Lorde also ditched her favorite dark lipstick shades and went with a natural nude pink. Paired with a hint of rosy blush, the look is just simple enough to leave room for her rockstar blue eye makeup.
Lorde also managed to combine her own style and the witchy New Orleans energy with a two-piece black velvet jumpsuit. With oversized bell sleeves, the ubiquitous off-the-shoulder cut, and a just a flash of bare stomach, she managed to nail the latest trend while staying true to her own often goth-inspired style.
Something about the heat, the proximity to Tom Petty, or her energetic shadow clearly made this one memorable show. “You guys have danced more than the entirety of Coachella, and we’re three songs in,” she said.
