From Town & Country

Once again, Washington, D.C. has been named the fittest city in the United States by the American Fitness Index, out this week from the American College of Sports Medicine and the Anthem Foundation.

The nation’s capital took top honors for its low smoking rate, heavy concentration of parks, and overall good mental health. Not far behind D.C. in the rankings are Minneapolis, Minnesota-noted for its high number of farmers’ markets per capita, lower death rates for cardiovascular disease and diabetes, and more vigorous requirements for Physical Education classes in public schools-and Denver, Colorado, whose residents boast high levels of physical activity and low levels of obesity.

In contrast, Indianapolis, Indiana can be found at the bottom of the list of metropolitan cities, a ranking that can be attributed to multiple factors including higher rates of asthma, obesity, diabetes, and coronary heart disease and fewer acres of parkland per capita.

Below, the rankings for the most and least fit cities in America.
