Lady Gaga’s Hair Bleaching Tutorial

Over the last two days, pop star and total beauty chameleon Lady Gaga shared her bleach blonde hair dyeing adventure with all of her Instagram fans. The singer, who has been sporting a dark brunette look for a while (it’s her natural color), is best known for the platinum blonde she burst on the scene with. In her series of posts, Lady Gaga thoroughly explains how along with her friend, colorist Patti Song, they made the change from dark to platinum.

Gaga not only gives details on the entire process (with a face mask selfie thrown into the mix), but she also shows that bleaching is not the easiest or the pleasant experience. She doesn’t hide the fact that it takes a few glasses of Pinot to get through the multi-day process.

Bleaching has always been known to be a harsh process and while we see many celebs make the transformation seemingly overnight (like Kim Kardashian), it’s best done slowly and spread out over a few days to help prevent damage. If you’re thinking about going Gaga blonde, you want to make sure your hair is in the best shape possible.

Warren-Tricomi Salon co-founder and master colorist Joel Warren says there are a few very important steps to take before doing your own bleaching. First, you need to hydrate and strength your hair. “Masks are great for all hair types before and after a color service,” he explains, especially on dry hair. “Dry hair absorbs more nutrients and benefit than if the hair is already saturated with water,” says Warren.
