Kim Zolciak-Biermann Had Treatment to Eliminate Sagging Skin on Her Jawline: 'I Look More Refreshed'

Kim Zolciak-Biermann says she underwent an "uncomfortable" treatment in February called Ultherapy to tighten up the sagging skin along her jawline.

"I thought it was uncomfortable," she told Bravo's The Lookbook. "The numbing cream helped though."

Still, the reality star says it was worth it.

"I feel like I look more refreshed," Zolciak-Biermann, 38, says. "It's non-invasive, no down time. The downside is waiting the couple months to notice the difference."

The surgery-free treatment uses an ultrasound and "the body's own natural healing process" for a facelift alternative that "lifts, tones and tightens loose skin, especially around the jawline and neck area," Dr. Joel Schlessinger, a dermatologic surgeon and contributor to RealSelf, tells PEOPLE.

He explains that the ultrasound waves heat up the collagen under the skin and breaks it down, and over the next few months the collagen will regrow with a tighter structure.

"While it isn't the equivalent of a facelift, it is great for someone who is just starting to see signs of aging and sagging of the skin," Schlessinger says. "I call it a single or double as opposed to a home run, but the key thing here is that it is easy, non-invasive and treats the neck and brow, which otherwise would require a huge and risky procedure with significant downtime."

Zolciak-Biermann, who's been open about her plastic surgery past, has said she's had a tummy tuck after hernia surgery and a boob job, along with other smaller procedures.

"I will always nip and tuck if I feel the need to do so," she previously said. "I'm open about it. I don't care. You only go around one time, and I especially understand that."
