Now that we're a week into spring doesn't mean you have to be all Easter egg pastels all the time. May we instead suggest something graphic and bold like Katy Perry's dot eyeliner. Last night, the "Chained to the Rhythm" singer tried a turquoise twist on the eye makeup trend that's been taking over Instagram, and we're living for it. The best part is recreating it at home will take you less than a minute. Trust.
Over the past couple months, celebrities like Emma Roberts, Zoe Kravitz, and Emma Watson have been ditching standard cat eye looks in favor for more daring liner. All have opted for black or brown liner. For Elton John's 70th birthday party, Perry's makeup artist, Anthony H. Nguyen, took a more colorful route. He drew on ocean-blue winged liner and dotted her lower lash lines with matching spots.
The final look is giving us major Anna Sui fall 2012 vibes. Back then, Pat McGrath placed a single cornflower-blue dot below the lash lines of models before they walked the runway. For precision and time purposes, she stuck on pre-made stickers. You don't need to search for your own to recreate this look at home, though. As we learned from professional makeup artist Katie Jane Hughes, you can use the round end of an eye shadow brush to create a precise dot. Just dip it into the same shadow or liner you used to line your upper lids, then stamp it right below your lower lashes. To find the perfect midpoint, look straight into a mirror and dot directly below your pupils. Pretty simple, right? To make it even easier, you can skip drawing on cat eyes all together and just do the dots. You'll still be on-trend and look like a teenage dream.
