Kate Upton Is Skipping All Those Pre-Wedding Diets

She's going to focus on feeling strong instead.

There's this incredibly annoying, absolutely false idea that preparing for a wedding must involve the bride-to-be following an overly restrictive diet to change her physical appearance. Even models aren't immune from the pressure—but Kate Upton, who got engaged in May of last year, is opting out.

Upton, who is engaged to Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander, tells People{: rel=nofollow} that she does not plan to participate in any bridal diets before her nuptials. (The date has yet to be set.) She also won't be weighing herself. "I never get on a scale because you can't judge yourself for how much you weigh," the 24-year-old said. "What really matters is how good I feel."

Upton has reached a place where she tries to focus more on what her body can do than how it looks. "I started looking at my body as a function to help me live my life the best I can—to have energy and to feel strong," she says.

Helping the supermodel feel her best is trainer Ben Bruno, who works with the model to help her reach different fitness goals. Upton loves intense strength-training workouts that basically involve lifting really heavy things, and her exercise of choice delivers numerous health benefits—none of which has anything to do with losing weight. "I have more energy, I feel stronger, I'm able to recover faster, whether it's from jet lag or from a hard workout," Upton says. "Things like that help you enjoy your life more and have the best use of function from your body."

Upton's positive philosophy is refreshing—yes, she's a gorgeous model, but we all feel the pressure to look a certain way, especially when it comes to weddings. Her attitude of embracing exercise primarily for how it makes her feel on the inside is pretty great.

This isn't the first time Upton has offered wise words of body positivity. She previously stated in a Facebook Live that she hopes to inspire women to love themselves, so-called "flaws" and all. In other words, Upton has no patience for body-shaming or pressure-inducing beauty standards—and we applaud her for it.
