Jeremy Scott’s Moschino Fragrance Comes in Teddy Bear Form, Of Course

You may not know designer Jeremy Scott by name, but you’ve undoubtedly seen his work. Rihanna has worn his pop-inspired clothing on tour, Kelly Osbourne rocked his Flintstones-esque frock, and Miley Cyrus is a huge fan of his new candy raver collection (she even collaborated on the accompanying jewelry). As someone who loves to test the limits of fashion, he made his mark by bringing kitsch to masses through his winged Adidas sneakers and heavily knocked off Simpsons sweaters, and as the creative director for Moschino he’s recently sent McDonalds happy meal handbags and human-sized Barbie clothes down the runway. So perhaps it’s no surprise that his first fragrance for the Italian fashion house is equally playful.

Toy by Moschino ($110) looks like a teddy bear, but as his t-shirt says, “This is not a Moschino Toy.” It is, in fact, a 1.7 oz eau de toilette nestled inside a stuffed animal. You have to remove the bear’s head to spray on the scent. While no information has been revealed about the fragrance notes, it already sold out on Moschino.com in one day.

Why the bear? Moschino has often used a teddy bear motif in its branding, and Jeremy Scott has previously used the fuzzy animals in his sneaker line for Adidas, so while the design may seem odd, it was probably a no-brainer. “One thing I have that the majority of other designers don’t is humor,” Scott told W Magazine back in February. “That’s distinctly my approach, and it was distinctly Franco Moschino’s, too.”

The campaign was shot by Steve Meisel and stars Brazilian model Isabeli Fontana with Moschino bears wrapped around her shoulders. Scott himself will unveil his new scent at Harrods on November 13 and it will be rolling out to stores in the U.S. soon after.
