So begins this insightful CNN Money feature, All I Want For Christmas: Boobs, revealing this holiday’s trend of giving plastic surgery as a gift. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, 15.6 million people had a cosmetic procedure in U.S. in 2014, a 104% increase from 2000 and 3% increase from the prior year. Talking about wanting to get a cosmetic treatment has become more widely acceptable—hence, making it easier to whisper into your loved one’s ear what you really want this holiday—a nip, tuck, injection or maybe just a little laser. Topping the most-requested plastic surgery as a gift list: facial cosmetic treatments, like Botox, Fraxel, and Restylane, as well as breast augmentations.

Some may view giving plastic surgery as a gift offensive, but in most cases, it’s the receiver who’s already made up her mind on which procedure she is going to get, and asks her husband or boyfriend to cover the cost. One woman said she was flattered that her husband gifted her Juvederm because it showed that he was listening to what she really wanted.

Dr. Michael J. Schenden, MD recently told RealSelf, ”Most plastic surgeons draw the line at a consultation as the only reasonable plastic surgery gift. However, if the doctor and patient agree that a procedure is reasonable, and the patient desires the procedure, then certainly the patient can have a third party pay for it. At that point, there are only financial obligations, not ethical issues.

Note to the men out there. Don’t surprise your significant other with a nose job that she has never mentioned before or isn’t on board with. You might end up in the dog house. “

The average cost of a breast augmentation last year was $3,678, while a face lift was $6,556 and a tummy tuck was $5,217. So if you’re thinking of asking your Santa for a little work, you best make sure you’ve been very nice this year.
