Here’s How You Can Recreate Cara Delevingne’s Perfect Tiny Braid

Of all the red carpet looks at the MTV Movie Awards, actress Cara Delevingne’s tiny braid, running along her side-parted air, really caught our attention. We had to find out how to create this look and if we could do it at home.

L’Oréal Paris celebrity stylist Mara Roszak, who created the look, said, “We wanted Cara’s hair down for an effortless kind of look. Her outfit had some edge to it, so the braid added a hint of interest and dimension to help round out the total look. It’s a feminine look with a slight edge to it.”

Here’s how she created this deceptively simple look.
On Delevingne’s damp hair, she applied L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle TXT IT Tousle Waves Spray ($4.99) then parted her hair and rough dried it for added texture. If you have very little natural texture, Roszak suggests putting damp hair into loose braids before drying for added wave and body.
She then used a 1 ¼-inch curling iron to create additional waves and touch up Delevingne’s natural texture a bit.
And, here’s where the braid comes in. Roszak took about a ½-inch section of hair from the crown of the head and an underneath layer and applied L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle TXT-IT Hyper-Fix Putty and a few spritzes of L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray before braiding to keep it all tight and together
She then pulled the braid forward along the part and used tiny, tiny bobby pins — the same color as the hair — to keep the braid in place. Adding a little gel, such as L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle Lock It Clean Style Gel, and applying it to the part before using bobby pins will make sure the braid is extra secure to the crown.
Roszak then curved the braid around the side of Delevingne’s head and tucked it behind her ear. She finished the look by using a tiny, invisible elastic at the end to hold the braid together.
