Fun Emma Stone fact: The A-List hair chameleon was born blonde. And yet, thanks to her porcelain skin and healthy sprinkling of freckles, Stone's hair color has in the past looked more natural when tinted a fiery red or rich brunette. That is, until the actress took the proverbial scenic route to blonde by incrementally coaxing the ginger hue she showed off at the Oscars into the buttery almost-platinum shade that sent lightbulbs popping at the AFI Life Achievement Award gala in Los Angeles last night.

Spotted with a multi-dimensional transitional hue last month, Stone first bridged the gap between blonde and titian with a strawberry blonde shade that featured slim golden highlights. The interim shade had a sun-bleached quality that resonated with the summer weather and provided a warm base for her new fully blanched hue. The takeaway? With a little patience and the right game plan, there's always a way back to blonde.
