Drugstore vs. Expensive Makeup—Can You Tell the Difference?

One of the most common questions I get asked as a beauty editor is if expensive makeup is really worth it (Answer: If you love the way it looks and feels on you, then yes). But while there’s absolutely no tearing me away from my Natura Bisse foundation or Dior Lip Glow, more often than not, when I compliment other people on their makeup, they tell me they’re actually wearing a drugstore buy. There are many factors that go into the price of a makeup product—from the ingredients to the branding to the packaging—but the question is, once the product is on your face, can people really tell if it’s a designer brand or a dupe?

The Today show set to find out by sending two identical twins—one made up with $250 worth of high end makeup and the other with a $60 drugstore look—out to the streets of New York and asked pedestrians to pick which look they thought looked better. Surprisingly, the overwhelming majority chose the look made with drugstore products. Take a look below and see if you can spot the difference:
