Dog with Severe Skin Condition Transforms in Foster Home, Is Now Ready for Adoption

“Warrior woman” is a loose translation of Zelda’s name — and when you learn the pup’s story, you’ll see why it totally fits.

Thanks to the caring staff at the Arizona Humane Society, the neglected stray pooch was able to bounce back from the brink to become the beautiful dog she was always meant to be.

A few months ago, the pooch arrived at the shelter suffering from a severe skin condition called demodex mange, a mite infestation which causes sores and cracked, uncomfortable skin.

“Zelda was put on a medical treatment plan where she received daily baths, medication, and frequent skin scrape tests,” says a post on the shelter’s blog, which explains her amazing transformation. “Then she was placed in a loving foster home to finish her recovery and of course received lots of love.”

It took some time but Zelda — who was almost completely bald when she arrived — transformed into a stunning brindle girl with a smile that clearly lights up a room, a pup her foster mom seemingly knew was there.

“It’s an enormously rewarding experience to help a dog that’s so sick and depressed,” foster mom Heather Daly said in the post. “Zelda means warrior woman. She’s exactly that. Zelda is a resilient dog who’s good with other dogs and kids, and loves treats, belly rubs, and playing fetch.”
