This DIY Makeup Brush Drying Hack Going Viral Is a Gamechanger

We've all heard all the gross things that can happen to your makeup brushes if they go unwashed for long periods of time — including, but not limited to, product buildup and mold growth (ewww). So while incredibly tedious, giving your blush, contour, and eyeshadow brushes a good cleaning every now and then is actually vital to your health.

But did you know that when you wash your brushes, you're actually putting their handles at risk of erosion? Because when you wash your brushes and allow them to dry in a vertical position, the water drips down to the handle, which can ultimately damage the wood. Luckily, there's a hack for that — one that prolongs the life of your makeup tools even after putting them through the ringer a few times — thanks to the lovely people of the Internet. It's so genius we wish we thought of it ourselves. (Seriously kicking ourselves here.)

Redditor heyimallison recently shared a snapshot of how she dries out her brushes after cleansing, and from the looks of it, it's too easy to pass up. "Use hair ties to fasten your brushes to a bar for quick drying," she wrote, alongside a photo of said brushes wrapped with elastic bands and then strapped to a bar, on top of a fan. "While I'm washing them I set them down on a towel while I finish washing the others, then I take the time to hang them!"

Like us, the rest of the Reddit world was just as intrigued by the makeup brush drying hack. One commenter wrote: "I got this tip from someone else on MUA and it's such a lifesaver. Definitely one of the best ideas I've gotten off of here haha." Genius!
