This DIY Lipstick Hack Let’s You Try Different Lip Colors Without Buying a New Tube

Want to make a statement with your look? Lipstick is certainly the easiest way to do it. A simple swipe of a bold shade can immediately up your confidence and transform any look from dull to chic in seconds. However, the effects of a bold lipstick vary by shade, hence the hoards of lipstick colors in every woman's beauty arsenal.

Because those tiny pigmented bullets can ring in at upward of $20, its not exactly cost effective to buy every shade on the market to fit your every mood. Luckily, one beauty blogger figured out the best way to have plenty of lip shades at your fingertips without having to shell out chunks of your paycheck at the local MAC counter.

Makeup artist Kathy (who goes by @makeupkathy on social media) recently posted an Instagram tutorial showing off how to mix your lipstick with concealer to change the color. The color change is so drastic, that it appears she's bought a whole new lipstick when wearing her newly produced lip color.

In the video, Kathy mixes a deep magenta lipstick with a light-toned concealer using a brush to mix both formulas together. In doing so, Kathy was able to change her lipstick into a more matte, lilac lip color. 

While we certainly have some questions regarding her technique, we're pretty certain that the dry concealer formula will turn even the silkiest lipsticks into a matte texture. Also, keep in mind that the darker the concealer, the deeper the color payoff will be once it's mixed with a lipstick. All in all, this seems like a pretty good hack to remember when looking to try a new lip color without buying a whole new lipstick.
