It’s a big day for Demi Lovato — on the same day as the release date of her fifth album, Confident, she’s signed a contract with Wilhelmina Models. The 23-year-old is multi-talented as a singer-songwriter, actor, philanthropist, X Factor judge, and business owner, and she already has considerable experience modeling for her own nail polish and skin care companies. Her empowered nude shoot with no makeup or retouching in Vanity Fair’s November issue prove she has the chops to add “model” to her résumé.

“We are so thrilled to represent such a sophisticated, confident, and talented woman, as Demi,” says Wilhelmina CEO Alex Vaickus in a recent press release. “She has proved that she is an accomplished singer and actress, and we look forward to seeing her success within the modeling realm.”

Lovato recognizes the contract as a career-defining moment. “I’m very excited to see where our work together will go creatively as I enter the next phase of my career and continue to develop as an artist,” the star says in the press release.

As for what we can expect from Lovato’s career in modeling, Wilhelmina’s senior model manager, Jose Covarrubias, thinks she’ll go far. “We are very excited to have such a phenomenal music star with an editorially beautiful image on board with us here at Wilhelmina,” says Covarrubias. “Not only is Demi immensely talented, she also has confidence, sophistication, maturity and body positivity that we will use to build her presence in the world of fashion.” The agency hopes to elevate Lovato to an even more impressive status through campaigns, editorial shoots, and endorsement deals in the style and beauty space. One thing is for sure: The modeling industry could use her body-positive attitude.
