This Curly Hair Trick Will Change the Way You Use Products Forever

From Good Housekeeping

Ever paced the aisles in your local drugstore searching for the holy grail product that addresses all your hair needs? The search can be especially tricky for women with curly strands who seek multiple different product benefits: frizz control, lightweight volume, added moisture and natural definition, just to name a few. Rather than finding a single perfect pick, it's time to take on another tactic. It's called product cocktailing and it is such a game changer.

"Product cocktailing is simply mixing two or more products together to meet your specific styling needs," explains hairstylist Andrita Renee. Combining different products that address different issues allows you to achieve the results you want. Now, you can't just add any two products together. Carefully choosing ones that actually complement one another is integral to your cocktail's success, much like mixing gin and tonic together rather than, say, gin and whiskey, which would clash horribly.

Renee's favorite picks balance lightness and heaviness. Her first cocktail: smoothing serums mixed with mousses. The serum gives strands a silky, polished appearance, while the mousse adds volume and defines curls without weighing them down. The second cocktail Renee loves is a mix of coconut oil and styling gel, as it allows for supreme hold without leaving your curls crunchy and dry.

To use, squirt a bit of each product in your hands, then apply it to your hair starting from the bottom and finger comb or brush the mixture through. You don't want to concentrate it at your scalp which can lead to buildup, and the ends of your hair are typically the driest part so it's best to add moisture there first. Don't go overboard the first time you utilize two products - it's best to start with a small amount then build it up as needed, just as you would for your blush or perfume.
