#CopyThat: Rihanna’s 2015 Met Ball Makeup

A red smoky eye, at first pass, seems like it would take Rihanna-level confidence to pull off. But just as with lips, there’s a red eye color for everyone — and once you find yours, the result is pretty gorgeous. Case in point: Rihanna’s look at the 2015 Met Ball. She looked downright regal with rosy eyes and cheeks, archless brows, and soft lips. And unlike her one-of-a-kind Guo Pei gown, anyone can mimic her makeup. Here’s how makeup artist Theo Kogan gave Yahoo editor Brittany Jones Cooper the look.

Start with a rosy red eyeshadow (or, if you’re thrifty and want to use what you have, a particularly rouge-y blush). Swirl it onto lids, and then up and out onto your brow bone. Then reach for a liquid liner (Kogan used MAC Penultimate eyeliner), and starting at the inner eye, draw small strokes out and up to create a small wing. Touch up any additional rose shadow (don’t be afraid to load it on), and then sweep a thin line of gold shadow under the eye.

Next up: falsies. Press on with glue, let dry, and then swipe on a few coats of volumizing black mascara to blend real and synthetic lashes, and add some length and curl. Touch up any missteps, then grab a brow brush. Comb brows up for maximum bushiness, and fill in with a brow pencil (we like Nars) and gel (ditto for Glossier Boy Brow).

Now you’re ready for rose shadow round three, this time brushed onto cheekbones. Sweep the shadow over brow bones and down, stopping short of the apples of the cheeks. That’s what highlighter is for — swirl it between brows, down your nose, onto inner- to mid-cheeks, and on the Cupid’s bow. Bronzer goes on the hollows of your cheeks and up onto the cheekbones, layering gently over blush.

Make sure everything works on your face, then move on to the final frontier: lips. Dab a sheer pink lipstick or stain (Glossier Generation G in Crush, in this case) on lips, then add a sheer, subtly sparkly gloss (Charlotte Tilbury Lip Lustre in Ibiza Nights). Dab, smack, and smile — you’re good to go!
