#CopyThat: Olivia Palermo’s Ornate Updo
Olivia Palermo is definitely one of the most pinned socialites on our Pinterest account. Between her lustworthy street fashion and effortless hairstyles, we can always turn to the former reality star for inspiration.
One of our favorite pins from 2016 had to be this ornate updo celebrity hairstylist Lacy Redway created for Palermo during Paris Fashion Week. Simple in structure, this chignon got a high-fashion upgrade thanks to expertly placed gold barrettes.
Eager to re-create this updo for upcoming holiday parties, we asked Kérastase consulting hairstylist Matt Fugate to show us how to get it done in under 10 steps.
Step-by-step instructions
1. Spritz hair with Kérastase Elixir Ultime Nourishing Hair Oil to add shine and prep for styling.
2. Create a center part. Then brush hair back and gather into a low ponytail above the nape. Secure with a bungee. Pro tip: A bungee helps to keep hair smooth and intact.
3. Take a small section of hair from the pony and wrap around elastic to conceal. Pin in place.
4. Use Kérastase Laque Dentelle Flexible Hold Hairspray to tame flyaway. Spray underneath ponytail to harden.
5. Straighten pony with a flat iron to really slick down and achieve a lacquered finish.
6. Add four metallic gold barrettes (try Goody Classics Metal Barrettes) of your choice to underlayer of ponytail.
7. Set with hairspray and roll bottle against hair to help flatten.
8. Roll ponytail upward and tuck into a chignon until barrettes are showing. Use bobby pins to secure end of pony against head.
9. Set style in place with a final blast of hairspray.
