#CopyThat: How to Get Chloë Moretz’s Candy Apple Red Lips

Chloë Grace Moretz is having one heck of a summer! The 19-year-old actress is currently dating Brooklyn Beckham, handling Internet haters (ahem, Khloé Kardashian) like a G, and preparing to deliver a speech at the 2016 Democratic National Convention. Oh, and she’s also looking fabulous while doing all of this.

Moretz recently blessed us with a lovely red-carpet beauty look, sporting a candy apple lip at a virtual gaming event in Los Angeles. The vibrant color added warmth to her fair complexion and paired perfectly with her tousled, blond waves. The effect was classic, effortless cool.

Ready to copy Moretz’s bright red lipstick look? Watch the tutorial above and keep reading to find out exactly how makeup artist Katie Jane Hughes made it happen.

Get the look

1. Apply a liquid highlight (Hughes used Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector, in Pearl) to the cheekbones, down the nose bridge, and along the Cupid’s bow with a medium, flat brush. Intensify the color and texture of the brows with Eyeko Brow Gel, brushing the pigment up into the hairs.

2. Use a shadow stick (this allows for more control) like Eyeko Me and My Shadow in bronze to create a thick line along the upper lash line. Deepen the liner by smudging in a rich brown shadow (try the CoverGirl TruNaked Eyeshadow Palette in Nudes 805), blending up lightly to the crease. To keep this look fresh and modern, apply MAC Upward Lash mascara only on the top eyelashes.

3. Now on to the lips! Outline and fill in lips with Laura Mercier Lip Pencil in Warm Poppy. Then apply a red lipstick like Butter London Lipstick in Lady Bug on top of the liner. Working with hydrating lip color products helps prevent creasing and ensures a seamless finish.

4. To finish, add a matte blush (Hughes’s go-to: Lorac Buildable Blush in Tinge) for a soft wash of color.
