Banks, who was diagnosed with a rare form of stage 4 cancer, made headlines last week when her friends started a campaign on social media to have her meet Beyoncé. “Beyoncé is one of her idols. She admires her so much, so we’re trying to put that on Twitter and Instagram to get Beyoncé’s attention,” according to classmate Karina Gutierrez. On March 22, the singer FaceTimed the teen, who had spent the majority of her senior year at MD Anderson Hospital.
Days before, Banks’s school district put together a special graduation ceremony for her at the hospital.
