To get their bodies and games into prime shape, many athletes will stop at nothing, trying rigorous workouts, rigid meal plans, vitamin injections or meditation. Giants runningback Rashad Jennings goes a lot farther option to spend seven to 20 hours a week napping in an at-home hyperbaric chamber. “I use it to rejuvenate and energize,” Jennings told the New York Post. “Even on a cognitive level it helps out.”

However, before you run out and buy one of your own, note that these devices costs thousands, Jennings paid $18,000 for his. There are Hyperbaric treatment centers, but according to John Giovanniello owner of Hyperbaric Associates of America, they feature devices that are much more powerful than the at-home versions and require a prescription. Hyperbaric chambers are capsules that pump pure pressurized oxygen, increasing the concentration of oxygen in bloodstream. It’s an approved therapy to heal wounds, aiding in the growth of new blood vessels. It is also used in cases of carbon monoxide or cyanide poisoning. Plus it helps fight infections, even killing bacteria. It is said to reduce swelling, decrease inflammation, strengthen the immune system, and stimulate the release of stem cells.

Apparently, Jennings has even inspired some of his teammates to try out the device. According to the New York Post, Orleans Darkwa occasionally heads over to Jennings’ New Jersey home to nap in the chamber. “In the locker room, it starts off like, ‘What the heck are you doing?’” Jennings says. “In the middle of the season, it changes to, ‘Show me how to do it.’” If Jennings season heats up, we can only imagine the other players who might think about taking a nap break at his house too.
