Ashley Graham: "Curves Come In 2s, 12s, and 22s"

From Redbook

Christie Brinkley was one of the most famous supermodels of the 1980s. And Ashley Graham, well, Graham is having a serious moment as one of the models leading the current body positive movement. While both have appeared in Sports Illustrated, they have very little in common - at least on the surface. Brinkley has always been the quintessential, long and lean California girl, while Graham is dark-eyed and dark-haired with curves for days. But that, they say, is a good thing.

As far as these two models are concerned, the more different women there are representing the fashion industry, the better. “Since you came on the scene … all the different designers are starting to create clothing that fit a lot of different sizes,” Brinkley told Graham in exclusive video for Redbookmag.com while shooting the duo’s #FitToBe fall campaign for NYDJ. “That’s going to be the new trend.”

While there’s still a long way to go, Graham has been hugely influential in bringing the fashion world’s attention to women who don’t fit typical sizing standards. She was the first plus-size woman to be featured in Sports Illustrated (a magazine Brinkley covered for three consecutive years), then covered SI, walked her first runway show ever in lingerie, and just landed a gig as the face of H&M.

“Curves come in 2s, 12s, and 22s,” says Graham.“ Everybody wants to feel fashionable. Every woman wants to feel represented.”
