Harper’s Bazaar: In your own words, what does Brazilian beauty mean to you?

Alessandra Ambrosio: Brazilian beauty is very natural and fresh. When I’m in Brazil, I feel connected to nature and wear as little makeup as possible— a great sunscreen, lip balm, and rouge is simple and chic.

HB: What do Brazilian women know about beauty that American women do not?

AA: I think all women are different no matter where they’re from. In Brazil, we enjoy the ability to be more carefree.

HB: How do Brazilian women take care of their hair?

AA: I keep it natural. My hair deals with so much styling and heat for work then when I’m home, I like to air dray with VS Beach Sexy Beach Hair Wave Spray.

HB: What’s the most classic Brazilian makeup look?

AA: A nice tan with lots of moisturizer. I also like to use some mascara, a bit of blush and a pink lip.

HB: How do Brazilian women take care of their skin?

AA: I try to keep my skin very hydrated with lots of moisturizers and face serums. I also always wear SPF to prevent wrinkles.

HB: What’s your favorite salon in Brazil?

AA: I go to Laces and Hair—they have amazing hair masks.

HB: What did your mother and grandmother teach you about beauty?

AA: The importance of hydrating! When you are dehydrated, you see it on your face and when you’ve had your share of water, it glows. Nothing is better for your skin than drinking a lot of water and green juices. I also love fresh coconut water bought on the beach.
