7 Tips From Makeup Artist Robin Black

  1. Skincare is the most important part of makeup.

  2. Change your lipstick with your mood.  I always carry a brilliant red orange, a matte hot pink, and a Bardot-inspired nude.

  3. For a just-bitten look, skip lip liner and apply your lipstick directly to the natural shape of your lips. Blot the corners and edges of your mouth with your finger to remove excess shine.

  4. When you are finished with your makeup, step about two feet away from the mirror and take a look.  Make adjustments (more blush? less shine?) based on this perspective, since this is how most people will see you.

  5. If your skin is oily or combination, try substituting a mattifying lotion for your usual day cream.

  6. When a bright lipstick wears off after eating, kissing, etc. it leaves behind a slight stain. Rather than fuss with applying more, smooth on a lip balm for a just “slightly better than natural” color.

  7. Always brush your eyebrow hairs up!  This gives the eyes the appearance of being more open and lifts the brow bone.
