5 Ways to Wear Green for St. Patrick’s Day

Green makeup is admittedly intimidating to try, but it can be done beautifully—as evidenced by these five very different takes on the runway in recent years. From sheer to opaque, emerald to electric, liner to lids, let these high fashion looks inspire you and bring you luck this St. Patrick’s Day.

First up is Oscar de la Renta’s Spring 2011 diffused color. To achieve this soft look, makeup artist Gucci Westman actually mixed two matte blue and green Revlon shadows and applied applied  black liner on the top lid to keep eyes defined.

Next up is Giorgio Armani’s Spring 2014 lids. For this edgy look, makeup artist Linda Cantello created a wash around the entire eye using a mixture of green and blue Eyes To Kill Solo eyeshadows, fading out for a halo effect. She, too, relied on black liner to complete the look.

Jason Wu’s Fall 2012 winged look was created by Diane Kendall for MAC. She blended two green pencils upwards in an exaggerated angle for a military-inspired look that was surprisingly feminine and chic. Don’t forget to load on the mascara!

For a pop of color, try using a bright green liner, as seen here at Kenzo’s Spring 2013 presentation. Makeup artist Yadim lined the entire eye with MAC Chromaline in Landscape Green, creating a ‘V’-shape around the tear duct area. Layer on the black mascara in thick coats on top and bottom lashes for impact.

Last but certainly not least is Versace Atelier’s Fall 2014 makeup look, created by makeup master Pat McGrath. She used a lighter green shade to the center of the line, and drew a darker teal in a dramatic cateye, swooping up to the temple. Next she added lots of mascara to the top lashes only.

To try any of these styles at home, there’s one tip to keep in mind: Keep the rest of your face very neutral, with fresh skin, groomed brows, and a simple pink lip. Time to make everyone green with envy over your new look.
