2 Officers Took Selfies Outside Burning House
Two Long Island police officers were captured on video Thursday taking what appears to be selfies in front of a house engulfed in flames. The Uniondale, New York, house was ultimately destroyed and while, fortunately, no one was hurt, the officers are now facing some serious heat for their apparent photo op, NBC 4 New York reported.
"The contents of this video are very concerning to the department and are currently under investigation," the Nassau County Police Department said in a statement to NBC. "If these officers are found to be in violation of any department rules and regulations, they will be appropriately disciplined."
According to the Washington Post, Nassau County legislator Kevan Abrahams told NBC the officers' actions represent "the lowest level of professionalism."
The instance also ignited some fury among neighbors, including one who told NBC the video "[showed] no concern about the people in the neighborhood." Yet the homeowner himself, who is an NYPD sergeant, said he didn't think the officers did anything wrong and that he was not "offended at all by this."
It is unclear who shot the video and what, if any, the officers' punishment will be.
