The most popular car in the world broke a 44-year-old sales record last year. With 1.33 million copies sold in 2015, it’s now surpassed the Volkswagen Beetle at its single-year peak, and ranks behind only the Ford Model T and Ford Model A for annual sales. And chances are you can’t remember the last time you saw one—because it’s just that ubiquitous and anonymous.

The Toyota Corolla already stands as the most-popular vehicle ever, with 41 million bolted together by the Japanese automaker since 1968. But its popularity reached a new high in 2015, according to tracking firm Focus2Move, with global sales growing 4.7 percent over its previous high in 2014.
