Formula E electric race car

Designed as a test bed of electric car tech, the inaugural Formula E racing series will launch in 2014 with races in ten cities around the world, featuring ten international racing teams in purpose-built, single-seat cars powered by McLaren technology. While the cars won't approach the speed of F1 cars — they're limited to a top speed of about 137 mph — the organizers hope the racing itself approaches a global standard.
