World's Largest Treehouse is a Massive 'Church in the Sky'

Orders to build this massive treehouse came to Minister Horace Burgess in 1993, when a vision of God himself decreed, "If you build me a treehouse, I will get you all the supplies." A good 14 years and $12K later, the Minister's Treehouse—which, by the way, was built sans blueprint—stands 97 feet high, boasting whopping five stories and 80 rooms.

With the help of a crew of volunteers, Burgess erected the 10,000-square-foot structure using mainly found materials—all held together by 258,000 nails and sprawled across a base of six oak trees. The super-treehouse has all the makings of a standard, uh, earthbound church—a bell tower, antique church pews, stained-glass windows and a choir loft—but also makes room for cool amenities such as a four-story swing and a sanctuary that doubles as a basketball court. The church has officially surpassed all other super-cool—albeit less holy—treehouses out there size-wise, receiving an induction into the Guinness Book of World Records last year. Yet due to recent zoning kerfuffles with the Tennessee Fire Marshall, Minister's Treehouse is currently closed; however, the photos live on. Have a look, right this way.
