Volkswagen Beetle GRC is a 560-HP, AWD Rally Monster
If there’s one thing we love about the summer X Games, it’s Rallycross. This unique form of motorsport mixes on- and off-road racing with sweet jumps, potent little cars and crazy paint schemes. Its roots are planted firmly in rally racing, but taken to and urban extreme. This year, Volkswagen’s Beetle GRC is ready to add to the fun.
Built by VW and Andretti Sports Marketing, the Beetle GRC will hit the dirt and street at the Austin X Games in June. Behind the wheel will be none other than Tanner Foust (notice the Rockstar paint scheme), and former NASCAR hopeful Scott Speed.
Like any Rallycross racer, the Beetle comes loaded with power. The GRC produces 560-horsepower via a turbocharged and direct-injected TSI engine. All-wheel drive is a must, and it’s likely to sport some sort of dual clutch transmission, although there’s nothing official on that just yet.
Either way — a 560 horsepower Beetle, covered in Rockstar paint, and sporting all-wheel drive makes quite a statement. This bad bug will join race versions of the VW Polo, Ford Fiesta ST, Dodge Dart, and others at the 2014 Summer X Games this June.
