Redesigned Camaro Convertible a Cause for Summer Celebration

Chevrolet is giving Americans one more reason to look forward to summertime--a redesigned 2016 Camaro convertible. There's just one catch. You'll need to wait almost a year before you'll be able to buy one.

When the new Camaro convertible goes on sale in early 2016, Chevrolet says that it will have the most advanced top of any competitor. "The 2016 Camaro coupe will set the benchmark for the segment in terms of technology, performance, and design," said Todd Christensen, Camaro marketing manager.

Highlights of the top's design and operation include fully automatic opening and closing (including latching), a hard tonneau cover that automatically installs over the folded top, remote top opening via the car's key fob, and the ability to open or close the top at speeds up to 30 mph. Constructed using a thermal and acoustic multi-layer approach, the Camaro Convertible's top is designed to provide four-season protection and a quiet highway ride when raised, Chevy says.

"From the beginning, the Camaro's architecture was developed to incorporate a convertible with uncompromised driving dynamics," said Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer. "Customers will appreciate what they don't feel: quivers, cowl shake, or an under-damped chassis typically found in a 4-seat convertible."
