Could 2015 Mark the End of the Corvette Z06?
If you think about all that the Corvette Z06 stands for, and how it has cemented itself as one of the best American performance cars ever built, it would be strange thing for GM to kill it off forever. After all, forever is a very long time. But that actually may be closer to reality than we all think.
According to Digital Trends, in a recent interview with Corvette‘s Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter, 2015 may mark the end of an era for the Corvette Z06. But why? Well, money talks — and the lack thereof has been speaking volumes of the Z06 for the past few years.
Here’s what Juechter had to say when asked about details regarding the new Z06: “If we don’t get sales back up, there won’t be a next one.” Point taken.
So, does the demise of the Z06 mean other models in the Corvette brand (like the range-topping ZR1) could meet the same fate? We don’t think so, at least not yet. But like Juechter said, the new Stingray needs to sell, and it needs to sell better than the competition if we want to continue to see the likes of the Z06 and ZR1.
