Most Reliable 2013 Cars: Sedans
J.D. Power annually surveys thousands of new- and used-car owners, gathering information about what has gone right and gone wrong, and what people like and dislike about their vehicles. Based on this research, J.D. Power predicts how reliable new cars are likely to be in the years ahead. The 2013 model-year sedans that follow, listed in alphabetical order, are the top-rated, non-luxury models in terms of predicted reliability.
Designed and engineered in Europe, the Buick Regal is a little bit smaller than many midsize sedans, but includes a fuel-efficient hybrid powertrain as standard equipment. A turbocharged 4-cylinder engine is installed in the Regal Turbo model, while the performance-oriented Regal GS gets modified styling, extra horsepower, and other changes intended to transform it into a genuine sport sedan.
The Impala full-size sedan continues in LS, LT and LTZ trim levels, offering a new Luxury Edition package for the LT. A 300-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 is the only engine available for the current iteration of the Impala, which continues for 2014 as the Impala Limited and will be sold only to businesses and governments. A redesigned 2014 Impala arrives for consumers to consider.
Redesigned for 2013, the new midsize Malibu is sold in LS, LT, Eco, and LTZ trim levels. New engines, including a turbocharged 4-cylinder option, arrive for 2013, and the Malibu Eco is equipped with a mild-hybrid power plant. New safety features and Chevrolet MyLink technology also debut with the 2013 Malibu's arrival.
Ford redesigns the 2013 Fusion, and offers the family sedan with a range of 4-cylinder engines and hybrid powertrains, including a new plug-in hybrid system that provides a claimed 20-mile electric vehicle driving range. All-wheel drive is optional with the most powerful turbocharged 4-cylinder engine choice, and the new Fusion can be upgraded with numerous luxury, safety, and technology options.
A redesigned Honda Accord arrives for 2013, equipped with more efficient engines and transmissions, new Sport and Touring trim levels, added standard equipment, and fresh safety and infotainment technologies. Hybrid versions of Honda's family sedan are planned for 2014.
Just one year after a complete redesign for the 2012 model year, the 2013 Civic is restyled on the outside, upgraded with improved materials inside, and boasts a strengthened underlying structure designed to improve crash protection, according to Honda. The base Civic DX is cancelled for 2013, while the Civic LX adds new safety and communications equipment. Honda's popular compact is offered in an array of models, from fuel-efficient to fun-to-drive.
Last redesigned for the 2011 model year, the 2013 Sonata family sedan is sold in GLS, SE, Limited, and Hybrid trim levels. The manual transmission that used to be standard for the GLS is dropped for 2013, while SE and Limited versions gain standard equipment. Among the models on this list, the Sonata has the longest warranty, with 10 years or 100,000 miles of powertrain protection.
Toyota redesigns the 2013 Avalon, which the automaker says is styled, engineered, and built in America. A 268-horsepower V-6 engine is standard, with a gas-electric hybrid powertrain capable of returning 40 mpg in combined driving offered as an option. The 2013 Avalon is available in XLE, XLE Premium, XLE Touring, and Limited trim levels.
One year after a complete redesign, the 2013 Camry returns with a standard touch-screen radio system, subtle updates to the interior, expanded availability of its optional blind-spot information system, and a new rear cross-traffic alert feature. Buyers select from 4-cylinder, V-6, and gas-electric hybrid powertrains, and L, LE, SE, and XLE trim levels.
This is the final year for the Corolla in advance of a complete redesign for 2014. Toyota's compact sedan continues in L, LE and S trim levels, the latter a sporty looking variant if not offering sporty driving. Nicer exterior trim arrived for 2013, along with a touch-screen radio display for LE and S versions. A couple of special-edition variants arrived toward the end of production.
