Have you ever, even for a split-second, wondered what it would be like to outrun the cops? Apparently one Swedish man, armed with a plethora of cameras, decided to live out that fantasy through the streets of Stockholm, in a par of “documentary-style” videos.
Two years ago, Youtube user 930505as posted a video called HIGHWAY, where he evaded the blues in a super-fast RS6. In that video he hit a top speed of 280 km/h (174 mph). The same poster recently uploaded a followup video, HIGHWAY 2, and it features a brazen driver equipped with a (presumably) modified Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG, taunting and evading police:
The driver lays down a patch in front of a VW Multivan police vehicle then speeds off. He then spends the rest of the video toying with a cop driving a Volvo V70. In stock form, the C63 makes 457 horsepower, and has a 0-60 time of 4.4 seconds. We suspect some tuning has taken place, much like the RS6 in the first HIGHWAY video here:
We would argue that this driver would have a harder time getting away with this in the states, given that we (still) have V8 patrol cars. Also, the police culture is different. American cops would be out in force and wait this thing out. They also might throw a spike strip or two and watch the driver crash at 170 mph.
On the flip side, the CHP has been known to shut down sections of highway during a chase, in order to keep innocent drivers out of the mix. What this driver did was extremely dangerous, made even more so by the fact that he was passing other cars and trucks at ridiculous rates of speed. We can’t stress enough that you should not try this at home.
