Ford vice president of design Moray Callum is retiring this spring, vacating the top design post at the company. Moray, brother of famed former Jaguar Land Rover designer Ian Callum, penned the iconic 2015 Mustang and dramatic 2017 Ford GT.

Those are two of Ford's most successful modern designs to date, emphasizing the importance of Callum's work and the hole he'll leave when he retires this spring. He's spent 38 years in the business, with stints at Peugeot, Chrysler, Ghia, Mazda, and Ford. At Mazda, he oversaw the company's post-Nineties transition, bringing flowing design work and red and black interior themes to the lineup. The NC Miata, original CX-9, and CX-7 were all designed under his watch.

When he exits on May 1, he'll be replaced by former Renault exterior design director Anthony Lo. Lo's got a long history of the business, too, ping-ponging between manufacturers like Saab, Lotus, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and Renault. His notable design portfolio includes the Lotus Carlton, Saab Aero X concept, and the original Audi A4. And though he has big shoes to fill, his name dropping of the Sierra Cosworth RS as the product that got him into the brand bodes well.
