Not-to-miss summer 2013 car shows
For car enthusiasts, the first signs of local cruise-ins are the signal that summer is coming. Going to local events is a guaranteed Good Friday evening or Saturday afternoon. If you're lucky, hitting the road for a car show and road trip will make your summer spectacular. Start out on the west coast and work your way east; there are plenty of shows waiting for you.
Roseville, California: Antique Trove Summer Car Show Series
This event is being held on multiple Sundays: July 21, August 18 and September 15. Admission is free and you can even enjoy free barbeque with soda and chips. The show is held at 236 Harding Boulevard in Roseville. The event starts at 9 a.m. each Sunday and runs until 2 p.m. In addition to classics and antiques, the show has custom cars and hot rods.
Reno, Nevada: Hot August Nights
This event is August 6-11, 2013. That gives you plenty of time to pack and hit the road. Expect to see cars from all eras and car auctions while you enjoy barbecues and concerts. If you want to plan a really great trip, head to Nevada for smaller shows being held in Sparks and Lake Tahoe on the weekend of August 2.
Branson, Missouri: Super Summer Cruise
If you cannot make it out west, head to Branson for a show August 8-10, 2013. More than 500 cars and trucks will be displayed at The Shepherd of the Hills Historic Homestead, 5548 West Highway 76 in Branson. You can follow this one on Facebook: Shepherd Super Summer Cruise or email.
Detroit, Michigan: Woodward Dream Cruise
Not to be outdone, the Motor City is hosting a show on August 17, 2013. Cruising is from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., however, the festivities last all week, starting on the 12th. Woodward Avenue is the place to be and while you can expect to see more than 10,000 cars, the highlight is the 60s-era muscle machines. If the muscle is not enough for you, there are no admission fees to watch or even to cruise your own machine.
Pigeon Forge, Tennessee: Shades of the Past Rod Run
While the summer may be winding down, the cars shows are not done. Cool off in Pigeon Forge at the Pigeon Forge Parkway, September 6 and 7, 2013 while viewing thousands of hot rods. Cars begin arriving as early as September 2. The highlights of this show are pre-72 vehicles. The weekend is full of concerts, barbeques and all the machinery you can handle. The climax of the event is the Hot Rod Roundup, and one attendee will win a 1931 Alloway roadster. Are you done packing yet?
