Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive breaks Nurburgring lap record for EVs

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive is a fascinating bit of kit. For starters, it boasts 740 hp from four electric motors, each one powering a separate wheel. This allows the car, and driver, to selectively chose how much power goes where at any given time, a unique set-up for electric cars. This accounts for handling akin to its combustion-engined twin, despite weighing 1,200 lbs. more than the standard SLS AMG. But don't just take my word for it, take a look at the video and see for yourself, as Mercedes snatch the EV lap record at the Nurburgring, posting an amazing time of 7:56.
