Mako Sharks, the Vettes of Malaise: Flickr photo of the day

This is the third entry in our countdown of Corvette generations ahead of Sunday's launch of the 2014 'Vette.

Time has a way of changing perspective. By the time the third-generation Chevrolet Corvette went out of production in 1982, fans saw it as the nadir of the line; pollution controls had robbed its power, with output hitting a low of 165 hp, while safety regulations packed on weight. For a decade, the '70s-era Vette was seen by many enthusiasts as good for burnouts doing burnouts and little else. But in the past several years, I think those judgments have eased; people who never drove in the '70s see the Mako Shark styling as touchingly retro, and modern swaps can provide the thunder that the factory couldn't. And the Corvette didn't lose all of its luster, as this photograph from an Australian car meet by ZapGaspix.

If you have a Vette to share, add it to the Motoramic group on Flickr, or send us a message via Twitter, Facebook, and Google+. And if you haven't tried it yet, download the fantastic new Flickr app here.
