June 8: The first car to bear the name Porsche was finished on this date in 1948

Ferdinand Porsche the elder built his first car around 1900, but it wouldn't be until June 8, 1948, that a small coterie of craftsmen in Stuttgart, working under the direction of Porsche and his son Ferry Porsche, would finish the prototype of the Type 356, the first model to bear the Porsche family name. Lost to history are any drawings suggesting they considered building an SUV first.
