The full Chevy Corvette Stingray convertible comes into view

The first official rendered images of the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray convertible released on Saturday gave us a hint of what the car had to offer, but today Chevrolet finally let loose the pixel shuffling that reveals the convertible in full profile. Just as the coupe's styling split enthusiasts, the convertible may do the same.

As these renderings show, Chevy has opted for a tan top on this model with a top-up profile that strongly resembles the previous generation's hatch. The model in the images appears to have the Z51 package, although the controversial fender vents for transmission and differential cooling have been moved to smooth out the lines on the trunk. (The tail lights, to the chagrin of some purists, remain unchanged.) The back deck and tonneau cover will look too fussy to some; unfortunately it's hard to make a final judgment without seeing the car in reality rather than merely computer generated.

Every Corvette since 1953 has been designed with a convertible at the forefront, and if the stakes are higher this time around, it's because Chevy took more of a risk in the design of the coupe. We'll have more details from the Geneva Motor Show reveal of the convertible on Tuesday.
