110 year old Oldsmobile readies for epic 2,826 mile journey of a lifetime

Joy Rainer stands as an automotive adventurer. She's competed in grueling events such as the London-to-Brighton Veteran Car run aboard a 1901 Clément Voiturette, as well as piloting a Jaguar E-type in various high-speed hill climbs. Her next next mission, however, may produce her toughest challenge yet, as she attempts to cross America in a 110 year old Oldsmobile, raising money for cancer research.

In years past, Joy competed with her partner Trevor Hulks. In 2010, Hulks sadly passed away, losing his hard-fought battle with cancer, leaving Joy heartbroken. A short while later, Gary Hoonsbeen of the Curved Dash Oldsmobile Club approached Joy to participate in the journey across the states as a tribute to Trevor. The decision, at first, proved difficult.

"My reply was 'I never say never,'" explained Joy on her website. "But in my heart, I did not think I could take on such a challenging trip without my soul-mate."
