Success in Hollywood tends to bring loads of money with it, which usually gets spent on matte-gray Audi R8 coupes or zebra-wrapped Range Rovers. So it’s always nice to find a celebrity with exquisite taste in classic cars.
Adam Levine, star of The Voice and lead singer of Maroon 5, personifies this taste with his immaculate 1958 Porsche 356A convertible. Levine was recently spotted while cruising in Los Angeles with his fiancée, Behati Prinsloo, but don’t worry – that’s as much celebrity back-story as you’ll get.
The Porsche 356 was the first production model that Ferdinand “Ferry” Porsche built. Early 356’s are known collectively as “Gmund coupes”, relating to their construction at Porsche’s first production house, which was essentially a large barn in Gmund, Austria. Levine’s car falls into a later production run between 1955 and 1959 that accounts for around 21,000 automobiles.
This black 356A sports a 1.5L DOHC flat-four that produces around 120-horsepower. Since the car weighs less than 2,0000 pounds, it packs more than enough oomph to conquer the Mille Miglia or to merge on the LA Freeway.
We’re just thankful that people – like Adam Levine – worship and restore these icons. Prices range from enormous to astronomical, which is down to the fact that only half of the original 76,000 are believed to exist.
