3 Thoughts With: The 2016 Lincoln MKX

Internet bloggers state that Lincoln is nothing more than an overpriced Ford. If you haven’t driven many modern Lincoln vehicles, like myself, you’d likely assume the same thing. However, in terms of the 2016 MKX, the Internet is wrong.

I say that fresh from a week spent driving Lincoln’s new five-passenger SUV. Watch the video above to hear my three main takeaways, but in the meantime, this is the gist: In Ford speak, the MKX is basically an Edge. And yet it feels far more refined. The leather seats are like sitting in a bathtub filled with silk, and it’s so quiet when on the road the only noise you hear is Matthew McConaughey’s southern drone playing on repeat in your head, thanks to those daft Lincoln ads.

The panoramic moonroof bathes the cabin in light, and plastics are surprisingly absent from most every surface. There’s still Lincoln/Ford’s Sync infotainment system, which was once dreadful and is now not too bad, and it has buttons so you’re not relying solely on the touchscreen. The appearance of that center console is perhaps a letdown, lacking any real style. But it remains functional and well-laid out, so pick your battles.
