  • A New Way to Serve Pasta

My South Africa trip (like all my trips) was very centered around eating (ok, like all my life). I love the farm-to-table style that so many of the places we visited honored. Throughout the trip, I kept seeing a cookbook entitled South Africa Eats displayed in restaurants, shops, and hotels. It was award-winning, quite heavy, and not-so-cheap, so I decided to buy it online once I got home instead. Big mistake.

  • Party Food Idea: Brunch on a Stick

When our whole family gets together, it's a party. So I didn't need a birthday as an excuse to make party food for breakfast last Saturday (and back by popular demand on Sunday). I made the first "brunch on a stick" and then my niece/nephews made the rest. Everyone refilled their own skewer. Several times. My job was just to keep the french toast coming. By the end there may or may not have been skewer fights, but we won't show you that. ...

  • 2-Ingredient Fudgsicles

I swear* the following things did not happen when I made these homemade 2-ingredient fudgsicles the first time: 1. I did not rush these out of the freezer because I was way to eager to eat them up. 2. I was not secretly thrilled when I couldn't get a good picture and knew I'd have to make another batch immediately. 3. My husband and I didn't split the entire batch. 4. My husband didn't use a straw to suck up the melted fudge-juice. 5. We didn't repeat 1-4 again last night. * fingers and toes crossed* Nutella Fudgsicles 8 Dixie Cup 8 popsicle sticks (or 4 straws cut in half) 1 1/2 c. ...

  • Make Your Mom a Grilled Panzanella Salad

I'm a proud daughter. Yesterday, my mom organized a charity golf tournament for nearly two-hundred people and it was a huge success. Almost a year ago she ran into a fellow member of her country club whom she heard was battling cancer. And though she had spoken maybe five sentences to the man in her life, she was inspired to thank the hospitals that saved his life. She could have walked right by him, she could have just given her good wishes - but instead she decided to give in a really big way. And, she did.

  • Baked Buffalo Rolls

I like to get messy with some bar food every once in a while. Buffalo wings are my favorite indulgence. I blame my mother who is a healthy fit woman, but she can throw down a dozen wings like nobody's business (extra crispy please, she always says). I have seen many recipes for home-made buffalo wings, but just can't do it. Do you know how much butter goes into those bad boys? Whoa. So when I saw this baked buffalo chicken roll without butter, I was thrilled. They were crispy, spicy, and gone in 60 seconds.

  • Strawberry Muffins

Lazy weekends are the best, aren't they? We had very few plans this weekend which was rare and delightful. I barely checked anything off my to-do list. We managed to be at the wrong restaurant for the wrong reservation on Saturday night. Sunday, we were inside when it was sunny and outside when it was pouring rain. And, still, it was great weekend. We got to the right restaurant and had a delicious meal, sprinted in laughter to our apartment while the rain came down on us, and made these delicious strawberry muffins while inside. ...

  • S’more Love for the Kiddies

I'm absolutely obsessed with my nieces and nephews. They are the cutest, most loving, fun kids and I am constantly in awe of their sense of humor, brilliance, and our mutual appreciation for all things sugary. I used them as an excuse to make these s'more cone treats repeatedly throughout the past weekend. And then, of course, I had to have one - just to make sure they were safe for them to eat. Each time. It's good to be an aunt. ...

  • 30 Minute Meal in 3 Days: Nobu’s Miso Cod

I was beyond happy to have my hubby home from his business trip. Yes I missed him very much, but, I also really need a good night sleep and I seem not be to able to sleep well without him. We live in a very - knock on wood - secure building, but I still hate to be alone. I triple lock the doors, barricade myself in our room, and sleep with scissors (not safe and not sane, I'm aware). So to keep busy, I planned his welcome home dinner. We love the Miso Black Cod from Nobu and when I found the recipe, I had to try it. ...

  • Delightful Summer Salad

It was pretty tough to get back to the grind after my fantastic sisters weekend in Martha's Vineyard. It was also impossible to get the salad we shared on the first night of our trip out of my head. It was a combination I had never tried. French feta. Watermelon. Balsamic vinegar. And the French in French feta is really important. It's sheep's milk and it's delicious and miraculously it doesn't hurt my stomach (that much). ...

  • No Ice, No Cream – It’s All Relative Ice Cream

No Ice, No Cream - It's All Relative Ice Cream It's all relative, right? It's one of my favorite phrases to throw out there when I've said something that isn't exactly grounded and I know it. Like saying.. this ice cream is fantastic. It's not Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Fudge Brownie fantastic, it's smushed-then-whipped frozen banana fantastic. Fantastic for having no ice or cream in it. It's refreshing and easy and I'm lactose intolerant so for me it was as close as I'm gonna get to Ben or Jerry. It's all relative right? No Ice, No Cream - It's All Relative Ice Cream from The Kitchn

  • Wine Pops

If I learned anything this weekend it is that wine makes moms happy. And wine popsicles make moms really happy. (Especially my mom, who enjoyed three of these.) We had the best weekend with lots of family and food. The best combo. THEM and I were very busy in the kitchen for a Mother's Day brunch. We made granola cups, blueberry cake, frittata (coming this week on LTM), and then we had these Wine Ice Pops. They were easy, fun, and delicious. I liked the Sauvignon Blanc/Peach best, but Dean picked the Pinot Noir/Blackberry/Blueberry as the winner. I guess we'll be making both all summer. ...

  • Very Validating Tomato Salad

I realized something a little strange about myself recently. Earlier in the week, my back was super tense and in the hope of preventing a migraine, I went for a massage. The masseuse was fantastic and at the end of the hour, she told me I was in terrible shape. My shoulder blades were tough as bricks. My back was spasming. My neck was beyond tight. And you know what? It was exactly what I wanted to hear. It was somehow validating. Am I crazy? Has anyone else everyone felt this or am I the only nut?

  • BBQ Chicken Pizza

I do most of the cooking in our house. The only exception is on the grill. My husband is The Grill Master. All I do is prep the food and then happily collapse on the couch until dinner is served. Shortly after we moved in together, I realized how much I enjoy these nights. So began the hunt for more and more grill-required recipes. We tried several cuts of steaks, various rubs, chicken marinated every which way. But I needed more nights off which called for more creativity. Charred Mexican Corn. Check. Grilled Clams in Lemon-Ginger Butter. Check. ...

  • Taco Cups, Accidentally

The other night I realized I didn't quite have all the ingredients or the focus I needed to follow the recipe I had planned on for dinner. So I did something I NEVER do. I cooked on the fly. I started pulling ingredients from the fridge, freezer, and pantry. And it worked. I found chopped meat, onion, tomatoes, half an avocado, cilantro, canned black beans, taco seasoning, cheese, fat free sour cream. That seemed like an obvious taco night to me except for the tiny little fact that I didn't have tortillas or tacos. ...

  • Make Ahead Healthy Egg McMuffins

My high school English teacher hated Alanis Morissette. That's NOT irony, he would scream. She's teaching an entire generation incorrectly! He went through each line of her popular song, "It's like 10,000 spoons, when all you need is knife." Not ironic! "It's meeting the man of my dreams, And then meeting his beautiful wife." Not ironic!!" An old man turned ninety-eight. He won the lottery and died the next day." Not ironic!!!

  • I'm Becoming My Mother Blueberry Cake

My sister once told my mom that she shouldn't compliment her own cooking, no matter how good it is. We do that kind of thing to my mom a lot. By "that kind of thing" I mean… we gang up on her. We roll our eyes. We poke fun. It's really rotten having three daughters. Last weekend, I made this Blueberry "Breakfast" Cake. It filled the house with the most delicious smell and as soon as I took my first bite, I couldn't stop telling Dean how good it was. Then I made him tell me several times how much he loved it. I finally heard myself and realized two things: 1. I am my mother. 2. ...

  • Drop the Chalupa and Viva Homemade Enchiladas

Enchiladas kind of scare me because:

  • Granola Cups for Easter Brunch

Though I was raised primarily Jewish (the Passover recipes will come later this week!), I remember the thrill of Easter egg hunts in my grandmother's backyard. My Dad's mom, Nannie, was a devout Irish Catholic lady who somehow ended up with three children who all married Jewish. But we were lucky enough to be able to celebrate with her. I remember the baskets stuffed with plastic grass and delicious chocolates. I remember a jelly bean guessing game (though I feel like this was at Friendly's, not Nannie's) and I remember digging up her garden looking for every last cadbury foil-wrapped egg. ...

  • Blazer Bling Out, Making a Dud into a Stud

Turn your boring old blazer into something you are actually excited to wear! From Dud to Stud!
