• You Say Fotini I Say Ferrari

New York Fashion Week Fall 2012 Season has come to an end, but the reviews are still pouring in. A few texture trends for fall 2012 that have been seen clear across the board at Lincoln Center NY was fur, leather, chiffon and wools. Following the texture trail was a beautiful array of neutral colors with a few pops of color, including deep reds, chocolates, navy hues, egg plant and jewel tone greens. Fotini's designs were inspired by a perfume bottle that the designer inherited from Egypt. You can completely see the feminine touches juxtaposed with the mystery and power of the ancient Egyptian times. On the other hand the Norisol Ferrari show was on the way more glamorous and seductive side with a hint of a rock star flare. Leather Japan was a captivating experience that had a dark futuristic feel, focused more on what else but leather. All three shows did not sway far from the trendy fall 2012 color scheme and inter-mixture framework. Flip through the pictures taken live from the shows/presentations that follow the fall 2012 texture take over.

• New York Fashion (Mid) Week Round Up!

This week I had the opportunity to attend multiple runway shows during the New York Fall 2012 Fashion Week event. I will tell you right now I was pretty shocked at how drawn to menswear I have become. I never expected to see as much beauty and elegance being expressed in a men's three piece suit. I started the week off at the Hyden Yoo presentation and the Joseph Abboud show, where I was pleasantly surprised to see a theme of handsome classically tailored suits and separates ranging in wools, flannel, cotton twills and a sliver of corduroy in natural hues of grey and brown. Mixed among the feminine women's wear tone I found it was refreshing to see a mid 1930's twist of masculinity and strength come down the runway. It brings us back to the days when men took longer than women to pick out an outfit on a Saturday night and wearing a suit was not just a week day uniform but a staple in a man's day to day life. I very much appreciated the under stated neutral tones found in some of fall 2012's up and coming designs. Both Candela and Custo Barcelona brought us to the great outdoors with a blend of a nature inspired color pallet and a glamorous shine. Both designers approached the upcoming season with a delicate hand focused on texture including, lots of fur (PETA would have a field day), leather, wool, sheer silk blends and metallic applications. As I watched the eloquent models take to the runway during the Custo Barcelona show I couldn't help but make the comparison of a 1970's Janis Joplin wardrobe and that of an early 1990's Hollywood glamour icon with a punk rock attitude. Over sized jackets and contrasting scale and texture really brought together a rugged yet polished futuristic feel. If you didn't love texture and contrasting layering in your style as of now, I promise come the fall 2012 you will be singing a different tune. Stay tuned for future reviews as New York Fashion Week Fall 2012 continues on. Also keep an eye out for video footage of previous runway shows including BCBGMaxazria and Custo Barcelona.
