  • Making a Mark

Approximately two weeks before leaving my home town of Milwaukee, I was walking along "Caesar Chavez Avenue" on the near Southside of the city. When I happened to spot a public litter can with a slogan written on one side that read, "Make a mark in life not on a wall." This small statement started me thinking about what we (the Mexican - American people) have and what we have contributed to this country of ours. Additionally, it also made me wonder if I have made my own mark in life.

  • The People Vs. George Zimmerman

As an activist I have been following the Trayyvon Martin, George Zimmerman case very closely. Needless to say I firmly believe that this is a death that could have been avoided had Mr. Zimmerman followed the advice of the 911 operator when he was told, "We don't need for you to do that." But there are still several unanswered questions that I think need to be addressed. 1. Why did Mr. Zimmerman leave the safety of his vehicle to follow the unarmed Mr. Martin? 2. There is an eighteen minute gap between the time Mr. Zimmerman hung up with the 911 operator and when he shot at point blank range ...

  • An English Only Law for America? I Really Don’t Think So

Growing up in a bi - lingual household, I learned very early in life to appreciate the beauty of both the English and Spanish languages. For example there are at least nine different ways of saying "I love you" in the Spanish language versus only one in the English language. Along with being raised within a bi - lingual household when we relocated to Milwaukee Wisconsin, we lived in a neighborhood that was filled with many different languages. Therefore, I learned to speak a few phrases in several different languages such as Polish, Russian, and German. ...

  • The State of Florida Vs George Zimmerman

With all of the recent media coverage concerning the Trayvon Martin, George Zimmerman incident I thought I would take the time to look up the Florida "Stand Your Ground" law. From some of the postings I have read so far a good number of people have tried to make this a race issue. But the truth of the matter is that this is in fact a legal issue and is now in the hands of our justice system. So if you are a supporter of Mr. Zimmerman then feel free to read the Florida state statute as it is written. I pulled a copy down after I looked it up and copied and pasted it to a word document. ...

  • An English Only Law I don't Think SO

The United States has a long history of imposing the English language on either territories or upon sovereignties that she has acquired.
