They become part of our verbal shorthand. In fact, sometimes the catchphrase outlives the song. We forget where it originated in the first place. The song becomes a slogan, the slogan becomes a R-shirt, the T-shirt becomes a bumper sticker, and the whole thing becomes so oversaturated that you start over with another song. Rinse and repeat.
