During the press interview at the end of the awards show, the 53-year-old also shared with Yahoo Lifestyle Singapore that he would have given a longer speech to thank more of his family members if he were given the chance.

Oldman shared in a press interview with Yahoo Lifestyle Singapore that his admiration for the late political figure was one of the reasons the win held “special significance”, but added that the “amazing cast and crew” had made the film a highlight of his 39-year acting career. “Darkest Hour” tells the story of Churchill, played by Oldman, when he was the UK prime minister during the Second World War.

The five-time National Basketball Association (NBA) champion won an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film for “Dear Basketball” on Sunday night (4 March, 5 March Monday morning Singapore time), along with director Glen Keane and composer John Williams.

    Special effects make-up artist Kazuhiro Tsuji may have been the only Asian winner at the 90th Academy Awards on Sunday (4 March, 5 March morning, Singapore time), but being recognised for his race was never on his mind. Along David Malinowski and Lucy Sibbick, the trio walked away with the Oscar for Best Make-up and Hair for their work on the British historical film “Darkest Hour”, starring actor Gary Oldman as the late UK prime minister Winston Churchill.

  • Singaporean TV host Denise Keller threatens to take legal action against yoga teacher

    Singaporean model and TV host Denise Keller is involved in a tiff with a yogi surrounding the use of content. Based on social media posts by the 35-year-old and yoga practitioner Marysia Do, the argument has been going on for nearly a month after Keller sent an email in January asking Do to remove a number of posts from her social media channels that had featured the former MTV VJ in it. Keller said on Facebook that the videos were shot and edited by herself in Singapore, using her own equipment.

  • Two Singaporean sci-fi and fantasy writers nominated for Nebula Awards

    Singaporean writers JY Yang and Vina Jie-Min Prasad have been nominated for this year’s Nebula Awards by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America. The Nebula Awards are considered among the most prestigious science fiction and fantasy awards, annually recognising the best works of the genre published in the United States. “The Black Tides of Heaven” by JY Yang is up for Best Novella while “A Series of Steaks” and “Fandom for Robots” by Prasad are up for Best Novelette and Best Short Story, respectively.  According to the Nebula rules, a novella should have 17,500 to 40,000 words, a novelette 7,500 to 17,500 words and a short story less than 7,500 words.

Chadwick Boseman, 41, who stars as the Black Panther himself, arrived at a red carpet event on Monday (5 Feb) looking dapper in a full Dzojchen ensemble and was seen with co-stars Lupita Nyong’o, 34, and Michael B Jordan, 30, as well as film director, Ryan Kyle Coogler.

    Being the regular good guy on screen has made Singapore actor Desmond Tan gleeful about his latest role, where he plays a villain in upcoming Channel 5 legal drama “Code of Law”. The 31-year-old plays banker and serial killer Derek Ho in the show’s fourth season, which also stars Keagan Kang, Sharon Ismail, Fauzie Laily and Oon Shu An, who plays Tan’s love interest. In preparation for this role, Tan spent months researching serial killers and reading his script multiple times to make sure he knew when to play up the intensity of Derek Ho’s character.
