  • Royals' Big Home Run Is World Series Game 2's Most Tweeted Moment

    The Kansas City Royals' big blast was also the biggest conversation starter on Twitter during Game 2 of the World Series. The two-run homer by Omar Infante in the 6th inning stretched the Royals' lead to 7-2 and was the most tweeted moment of the night. Infante's home run capped off an eventful 6th inning, with the Royals scoring five total runs.

  • Helicopter Enters D.C.'s Restricted Airspace, Capturing Rare, Breathtaking View

    YouTube user Richard MacDonald posted this stunning video from a helicopter that was allowed to enter the prohibited airspace that surrounds the nation's capital for a project. The prohibited airspace, known as P-56, extends from the surface to 18,000 feet and covers pretty much all of downtown D.C., as well as the Naval Observatory, the residence of the vice president. The only flights through the airspace on a regular basis are official ones, such as when Marine One brings President Barack Obama to and from Joint Base Andrews.

  • What Is A Government Shutdown?

    Washington is hurtling toward a government shutdown, as the time to agree on a budget for the remainder of the fiscal year runs out. A government shutdown occurs when Congress fails to pass a spending bill and the government discontinues providing services that are not considered "essential." Typically, essential services include police, fire fighting, armed forces, utilities and corrections. Interestingly, Congress and the president are exempt from the furlough and continue to receive compensation despite the fact that other services are suspended.
